An LLB/MBA graduate from Dalhousie University, Allison is a lawyer and founding Executive Director of the Community Foundation of Nova Scotia, an emerging centre for philanthropy which focuses on endowment building, strategic grant making and community leadership in all areas of social concern.

While completing her law and business degrees, Allison worked as Program Manager for the Foundation for Heritage and the Arts, which was responsible for running the Building Sustainable Organizations Program. This Program, praised as one of the best in the country, assisted select arts and heritage organizations from across the province to improve their overall capacity through strategic initiatives in governance, short and long term business planning and marketing.

Allison also holds a BA from Dalhousie University (combined honours, Philosophy and Neuroscience). She has collected numerous awards for her academic excellence and community involvement, including a Merit Scholarship, Northstar Trade Fellowship in International Business and a Rhodes Scholarship nomination. She was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2006 after completing her articles with a large Atlantic Canadian law firm. She then practiced as an in-house counsel to a media and entertainment company before taking on her latest challenge with the Community Foundation of Nova Scotia.
